Well hello there everyone; here I am, writing yet another one of the emails of my mission. :)
I´m writing at the end of PDay because there were some problems with the Internet at the place we always go this morning. I was about to reply something to Mom telling me that it was already snowing and about the winds... and the Internet died on us. So, we had to leave and took care of some other basic needs and then came back here to end the day. So, now on to describe more of Pday. We didn´t really do a whole lot of active stuff. We did some shopping in Centro, and also watched a movie (Emma Smith) - a strange movie, but good - and then played a little bit of volleyball; but for the most part it was just a nice and relaxing Pday. So that´s pretty much it. Later tonight we have some pretty important appointments, so we shall see how they all work out, I´m hoping well.
Moving on... the week! umm lets see, what exciting things happened this week. It was really hot. That´s probably the most exciting thing about the weather so far. Today it isn´t so bad; it rained a fair amount last night, so things aren´t too terrible. Sometimes though, it´s actually worse if it rains, cause then when the suns comes back out, it dries everything up so quickly that it just makes things really humid. Which for me at least, coming from a relatively dry part of the world, isn´t all that fun. Humidity isn´t one of my good friends.
Apart from that this week was an unusually good week for us in finding new investigators. Usually we have to clap or knock on lots of houses before people finally let us in. But this week we were able to find a whole bunch of new investigators. It seems that after persevering for a while, the Lord is blessing us for our efforts. A good example of this happened to us on Saturday night. We had been clapping for a few hours and nothing really was working in our favor. The only other house we had gotten into was an old lady´s house who just let us in to be nice. So, it was clap another house, or take the long way back to the apartment. We decided to clap another house and a man answered the door and chose to let us in. He is really intelligent and understood all of what we were telling him and even offered to give the closing prayer. He´s a philosophy professor and seems really open to the idea of finding the truth.
Experiences like that have happened several times this week. Yesterday, we talked to a man, and at first he had lots of doubts. Doubts about why the authority from God is necessary for things like baptism. After explaining it all to him, and in the end just telling him that we really didn´t want him to just believe what we were saying, but that we wanted him to simply ask God if it was true, he agreed. He also offered the closing prayer and also accepted a baptismal date. :) Another experience - Wednesday, I was on splits training our district leader. We went with a member to a house no one had every been to before. We taught a man and some of his family. They are Aborigines from another places in Formosa, that live in capital now. He didn´t really seem to be paying attention at first, but we asked him some questions and seemed to attract his interest, so we paid more attention. In the end, he also prayed and accepted a baptismal date. On top of it all he came with his wife to church on Sunday. Sometimes the success doesn´t come in the way that you want it, but it always comes. Of that I have a testimony. :)
Another fun and quick story, on Wednesday, also in splits. Some missionaries from the Catholic church came knocking on our door as we were leaving that morning. They wanted to come by and share a message on Friday; naturally we said yes. So on Friday when they came we set some chairs outside the apartment and talked with them for a while. They didn´t really even try to convert us; we just had a nice chat about families and we shared with them, Family, A Proclamation to the World. While at the moment I don´t know how much we gained by letting them come over, maybe in the future them or someone else will open a door to us at some future point in time. :)
So, the tornado in Formosa was actually pretty far from here, but the tail end of the storm did catch us... in the street. Just a bunch of rain, we got a little wet. Shoot, I´m out of time, I´ll write the rest next week!!!! The questions and everything...
I love you all!
con amor,
Matthew
